Phil Holland was born and raised in Southern California. He took an interest in art, science, and entertainment at a very young age. After graduating high school he decided to redirect his interests away from his scientific career aspirations and education to focus on his creative desires. Determined to improve upon his abilities, for the next few years he was drawing and studying around two to sixteen hours a day. Striving to understand more about color theory, storytelling, composition, anatomy, and art history.
Phil is currently known as a Digital Imaging Specialist. He's been working in feature films for over 12 years. He worked at Rhythm and Hues Studios from 1999-2010 and during that time he was also able to do freelance for many other production studios, post houses, and video game studios. Over the course of his career Phil has worked on over 100 feature films in different capacities. Digital Colorist, Scan/Record Coordinator, Technical Cinematographer, Still Photographer, and Conceptual Illustrator.
For the last few years of his career, Phil has been focused on quick and efficient high dynamic range image capture on set to assist with photo-real image based lighting, cross polarized texture photography, and cinematography.
He has a passion for giving back to the entertainment educational community. Phil has spoken and instructed at ConceptArt.org Art Workshops for several years. Recently he completed an educational video through TheArtDepartment.org titled "Exploring Photography". He has also been instructing Digital Photography with a focus on motion picture and game use at The Gnomon Academy of Visual Effects.
In his spare time Phil enjoys hiking, camping, writing, creating music, drawing, cooking, creating personal work, and spending time with friends.
